ONCE UPON A TIME

In pairs, look at the illustration below and describe it to your partner in a few sentences. Guess the title of a story by clicking one of the titles below.

Read the beginning of the {fairy tale;fairy tale = (n) a made-up story, usually for children featuring the life of fairies, dwarfs, giants , dragons and other creatures.} The Happy Prince and choose the right words to finish the sentences.

High above the city, on a tall column, {stood;had;glowed} the statue of the Happy Prince. He was gilded all over with thin leaves of fine gold, for eyes he {had;glowed;stood} two bright sapphires, and a large red ruby {glowed;added;had} on his sword-hilt. He was very much admired indeed. "He is as beautiful as a weathercock," {remarked;wished;added} one of the Town Councillors who {wished;glowed;remarked} to gain a reputation for having artistic tastes; "only not quite so useful," he {added;feared;stood} fearing lest people should think him unpractical, which he really {was;were;did} not.
