People benefit a lot from tourism, but one must admit it has many disadvantages that need to be mentioned. Firstly, there is a negative social effect because mass tourism destroys traditional values by bringing in foreign elements that clash with cultural and historical heritage. One might say that local people benefit from tourism but the reality is not like that. On the one hand, the locals are offered seasonal jobs which are often poorly paid because the majority of the profit goes to foreigners who, on the other hand , own hotel chains and similar corporations. Besides this negative economic effect, there is also the environmental effect which is a threat to natural resources like water, food, and energy. Increased traffic, noise, littering, and waste are just some of the consequences of organised tourism, so think twice about your holiday destination before your next booking.
