I was at my grandma’s the other day because I wanted her to teach me how to make a traditional dish from that region, Idrija žlikrofi. Before we started making the dough, grandma asked me to bring a bag of flour from the pantry. I went there and when I turned on the light I saw shelves stacked with so much food as if the World War III was coming. There were sacks, boxes, cans, jars, and cartons all neatly and systematically organized. On top shelves were boxes of different macaroni, bags of at least three sorts of flour, and a few bars of chocolate, below were cans of beans, maize, and peas, and at the bottom, beautifully arranged jars of homemade marmalade with labels saying what fruit they were made from. Much to my surprise, there were even some god-knows-how-old bottles of wine. In the corner, there was an old beer barrel with a few tubes of tomato paste and empty egg cartons on top. Honestly, I was flabbergasted. All this food for two people in the household.
