Woodland Junior High School is situated in Kent, UK. There are about 700 students. The school specialises in Computers and Maths and that is why it provides a tablet PC for each and every student.
The ordinary school day starts at 8.30 am when most students leave home and walk to a bus stop. The school bus takes them to school. Pupils at Woodland Junior High School must wear school uniforms in royal blue, grey and white colour. They wear a a pullover, a cardigan or a school sweatshirt, trousers or a skirt, a white shirt or a blouse, socks or black or grey tights.
The school day starts with registration in the school hall at 8.50 am. First the class teachers read out each student’s full name and record it in a special book. Students listen to important announcements about the events at school. After registration each student leaves stuff in a locker and hurries to the class.
Students aged 11 to 14 learn English, maths, science, history, geography, French or Spanish, design and technology, art and design, music, P.E., citizenship and ICT.
The first period starts at 9am and lasts one hour. Normally a student has 5 lessons a day. After the second period it is time for a 20- minute break when students eat a snack. Lunch break is 50 minutes long. Students can have school dinners at the school canteen. The 5th period starts after lunch break at 2.10 and finishes at 3.10. After school pupils join different clubs or go home.
There is something special about the school. Pupils have got special identity cards called swipe cards. In this way the school gets information about students’ attendance or in case of emergencies know the exact location of every student. Students can also pay dinner at the school canteen or buy snacks with their swipe card.
