a) If a pupil talks back to his teacher he has to apologize for misbehaving.

b) If pupils cheat in a test or use a crib sheet, their test is taken away from them immediately.

c) If pupils play truant their parents are notified and the pupil must report to the principal’s office.

d) When the pupil’s phone rings during the lesson the phone is taken away and parents must collect it at the principal’s office.

 e) If a pupil damages a piece of school furniture the damage must be paid by the pupil’s parents.

f) The pupil must remove nail varnish immediately.

g) The football is taken away and the boys must do some extra work in the school cafeteria or in the library.

h) If the principal notices the pupil with a chewing gum the pupil has to do some extra work in the school library.

i)  The pupil gets a bad mark.

j) The pupil and his parents are called to the principal.

School rules are a necessity and most pupils respect and follow them. Don’t get me wrong! I don’t like them very much because they limit my rights. At my school we have rules covering what we must wear, how we are expected to behave in the class during the lessons, what we are allowed and not allowed to do during the breaks and when the lessons are over. On top of that there are several additional rules for science, craft and P.E. classes but I guess they are fine. They simply must be followed to ensure the pupils’ safety.
I always respect the rule about arriving to the classroom in time. When the bell rings, I am in my seat. I also listen to my teacher and follow her instructions while some of my classmates break this rule just to make the teacher mad. There is also a rule about bringing notebooks and course books and pens to class daily. The problem with this school rule is that my school bag is very heavy and I really don’t understand why the school doesn’t provide the course books for the pupils.
On the other hand there are some rules that are completely unnecessary. For example, a pupil must raise hand before leaving a seat in case he or she wants to go to the bathroom. If a pupil does that quietly than nobody is disturbed. Another rule I would definitely change the “chewing gum” rule. The rule says that nobody is allowed to chew a gum during the lesson. It really doesn’t make sense. Firstly, gum helps to shut up pupils who love chatting. Secondly, you are relaxed during the lesson and thirdly gum can help you concentrate.
